Eagle Consulting Partners is pleased to announce the release of its 2018 update of its Policies and Procedures for Ohio County Boards of Developmental Disability. These policies simultaneously comply with HIPAA, FERPA, IDEA and the Ohio law. They are fully updated based on current regulations and the latest environmental threats. They are specifically designed for County Boards.
Updates in the January, 2018 edition include:
- New procedures for security risk management, updated for full compliance with the HHS Office of Civil Rights audit protocol. During 2017 this protocol was used for random audits of HIPAA covered entities.
- Updates to reflect changes in Ohio Revised Code (ORC) and Ohio Administrative Code (OAC). Over the last several years a number of updates have been made to the ORC and OAC regarding confidentiality. In general, these changes harmonize ORC and OAC with HIPAA, which allowed for some simplification of the policies.
- Comprehensive new policies for mobile devices, including policies to address the “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) trend. Policies were added for instruction to employees and the technical staff. An employee agreement was also added.
- Updates to password policies based on new government guidance on best-practices, NIST SP 800-63B, published in 2017.
- An optional policy, for larger boards, to specify data governance procedures. Larger agencies have distributed responsibilities for various information systems, and a new Data Governance policy provides appropriate language to reflect this complexity.
- An updated social media policy which addresses new social media platforms and evolving best-practices for dealing with this complex reality.
- Numerous small changes to improve clarity, provide consistency in terminology and to correct grammatical and typographic errors.
These policies are offered a no cost to any Board who has used Eagle’s services during the last 3 years. Other boards may obtain them at the Eagle Consulting on-line HIPAA policy store. Eagle also offers customization services to assist Boards with the labor-intensive process of fully integrating these policies into a policy manual.
